Stop That Back Breakout

Men now love the benefits of waxing just as much as women do and frequent our studio for their monthly appointments. Are you considering starting a back wax routine?

A necessary, important part of our waxing services is to educate our clients how to care for their skin before and after their appointment. I find this especially so with men because most men haven't grown up being taught the ins and outs of skincare like women have.

One area that I feel necessary to write about is in regards to the back wax. Removing the hair from its follicle is something that the skin is not familiar with. Because of this, the back is a common area for a breakout to occur after waxing. However, it can be prevented!

Three tips for avoiding a back breakout after waxing:

  1. Allow your skin to heal for at least 24 hours. This means avoid heavy creams, excessive touching, saunas or hot tubs, working out (chaffing), and direct sun.
  2. After 48 hours, exfoliate quite rigorously every day in the shower with an exfoliating towel or loofah (available at the Grizzly Bare).
  3. Apply ClearIt Blemish Control twice a day for the first week after waxing (also available at the Grizzly Bare). ClearIt is a topical gel that contains sulfur and other active ingredients to help prevent breakouts and/or ingrown hairs. ClearIt is also low in alcohol so it will not dry out your skin.

With regular waxing, which is every four weeks, the skin will also adjust to having the hair removed and will stop reacting with a breakout. It's just a matter of taking care of your skin and being patient!
